Introducing…
All the King’s Kids
A Ministry to Children with Special Needs and their Families

With all of the challenges that children with special needs
and their caregivers face on a daily basis, many consider the idea of heading
off to church on Sunday morning to be just another struggle that they would
rather not face.
That is why the members of King of Kings Lutheran Church
are initiating a new ministry to families with special needs. We not only want
your family to feel welcome and accepted, but we will work with you to provide
a variety of accommodations and supports that will allow your family to
participate fully in all areas of our church life.
Beginning
Spring 2006, we will be offering several supports for children with special
needs including:
n
Sunday
School Shepherds to
assist children in our inclusive classes
n
A self-contained
Sunday School class for children that learn better with modified instruction
n
Modified or
customized confirmation curriculums
n
Staffed
church-time child care for children that find it difficult to sit through a worship
service
n
A “Quiet Room” in our new library where parents and children can view the
church service via closed circuit television (coming in June)
Many of our volunteers have participated in our “Special
Needs Basic Training” class, which provides them with an overview of various
developmental disabilities along with practical ways of working with
individuals who live with them. And a recent grant from the Lutheran
Foundation of St. Louis will allow us to obtain specialized education materials
and sensory integration devices.
Our Special Needs Coordinator will work with parents to identify
their children’s needs and help them to grow in their Christian faith, at the
same time allowing parents and siblings the opportunity to nurture their own
faiths.
