ABOUT US

            King of Kings Lutheran Preschool and Kids’ Day Out is a non-profit preschool and Kids’ Day Out, serving children ages 2-5, and is a ministry of King of Kings Lutheran Church. We have been providing quality early childhood education to the surrounding communities since 1980.

PHILOSOPHY

            Each child is a special and unique creation of God. We value and celebrate each young person in our care and offer opportunites for growth by providing children a positive, creative and stimulating Christian environment in which to develop and thrive. We believe that children learn best when given opportunites to learn first hand the wonders of God’s world, and therefore we afford ample time for “hands on” and discovery experiences.

PURPOSE AND VALUES

            The value of early childhood training is indicated in the Bible: “Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” Proverbs 2:6. A Christian home gives a child his/her first Christian training and instruction. At King of Kings we partner with you in this responsibility by providing a loving, warm and secure environment where children receive Christian love and participate in “Jesus Time”. We also partner with parents as we:

            *assist in the adjustment from home to school life;

            *help each child build a positive self concept by providing developmentally appropriate experiences;

            *help each child gain independence and learn to be responsible;

            *provide a Christian environment that promotes growth in the spiritual, social, emotional, intellectual and physical realms.

OUR CURRICULUM INCLUDES:

                        *Jesus Time

                        *Literacy and Math experiences

                        *Music and movement

LOCATION AND FACILITY

            King of Kings Lutheran Church and Preschool/Kids’ Day Out is located just west of the intersection of Highway 141 and Olive Boulevard, on the north side of the street.

            Our facility is secure, with two entries that are accessible only if a person rings the bell. A camera is mounted at each entry.

            We have a large, fenced playground with an ample amount of green space for the children to run, jump and yell! This summer (2011) we will be adding a new piece of playground equipment on the west side of our playground and installing a new fence around the entire perimeter. These improvements are being added to existing pieces of climbing equipment that the children love.

            Each classroom is well-equipped with a wide variety of manipulatives, toys, blocks, and teaching aids. Areas in our classrooms include: dramatic play, art/writing center, tables for tasks, altar for “Jesus time”, library, science/observation table, block area. We strive to keep our classrooms well-stocked and fresh.

Special Needs Ministry

When our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, declared, “Let the little children come to me,” He was inviting all children to experience the joy of His “Good News” – including those with special needs.Yet sometimes children with special needs and their caregivers can find that venturing to church to worship God on Sunday morning can just be another struggle that they would rather not face.
That is why the members of King of Kings Lutheran Church are now offering a new ministry to families with special needs – All the King’s Kids. We not only want your family to feel welcome and accepted, but we will work with you to provide a variety of accommodations and supports that will allow your entire family to participate in all areas of our church life.

These currently include:

          • Sunday School Shepherds to assist children in our inclusive classes
          • A self-contained Sunday School class for children that learn better with modified instruction
          • Modified or customized confirmation curriculums
          • Staffed church-time child care for children who find it difficult to sit through a worship service
          • A “Quiet Room” in our new library where parents and children can view the church service via closed circuit television
          • A Christian Support Group for parents and caregivers of people with special needs

Many of our volunteers have participated in our “Special Needs Basic Training” class, which provides them with an overview of various developmental disabilities along with practical ways of working with individuals whose lives are affected by them. And a recent grant from the Lutheran Foundation of St. Louis has allowed us to obtain specialized education materials and sensory integration devices.

Our Special Needs Coordinator works with parents to identify their children’s needs and help them to grow in their Christian faith, while allowing parents and siblings the opportunity to nurture their own faiths.

King of Kings offers a variety of opportunities for people of all ages to worship, learn, and serve God in a caring Christian community. We invite you to visit or call us to learn more about how we might serve your family.

For more information, please contact our church office at 314-469-2224.
